My teacher for tech theatre is Ms. Philips with technical help from Mr. Gillette.
This project has to be my absolute favorite. We had to build the set for Keppel's production of Beauty and the Beast. There was so much that went into the entire thing. The set had to be built, the lights had to be refocused and some lights needed to be added. We had to test everything to make sure it was all safe and correct for the shows. Then came the countless hours of rehearsal. Running the show over and over so that tech crew got their cues down. There were several things that needed to be added and changed in the process of getting to the show and during the shows themselves. Everyone had to work together and really communicate so that everything happened the way it needed to. We had to work with the actors and the orchestra to get everything composed. Several things happened during the show that caused some worry but it was nothing the crew and Mr. Gillette couldn't handle in an orderly (but still incredibly almost panicky, hurrying ) way. There was so many hours, volunteered and mandatory, that went into this production. So much went into making this production a success and boy, did we succeed. It came out better than I could have ever hoped. I was so incredibly pleased with how it turned out. I never imagined that it would turn out as well as it did.
Doing this production was meaningful to me because it was something I had never done before. I was given a chance to be one of the main people in the tech crew. I was the Assistant Technical Director. I was basically the assistant to Mr. Gillette.I did whatever he asked me to do and occasionally that meant yelling at the crew to get their shit going. He told me several times that whenever he wasn't there, I was supposed to be him. I did so many different things for the show. I helped put the platforms up, I helped make the massive staircase along with Daphne, I helped with the banister, I wired all of the sconces on the wall and circuited all the lights. I patched lights and I focused just about all of them. I changed gels, added lights to certain sections, I helped make the walkway, I helped make a rep. plot, I taught other techies different methods for different things, I helped make the balcony. I did so much. And I don't mean to brag. If anything this is for memory purposes. I learned so many things from this show. Mr. Gillette taught me so many things and I am so grateful for everything he has showed me. Without tech and without his help and encouragement, I wouldn't be where I am right now. I could not have asked for a better class or a better teachers. Tech means the world to me and having the opportunity to be a part of something like this is the absolute best feeling in the world and I could not have asked for a better way to end my time in high school.
