My teacher for art is Ms. Bostwick.
This assignment is block printing. In the photo, it is not completed but it is in the process.
For this assignment, Ms. Bostwick asked us to pick and animal (I chose the axolotl) and make it the focus of the scene. She also wanted us to give it a characteristic that would get the animal into trouble often.
For this to be completed , we had to sketch out our ideas on a scratch piece of paper. Once we were happy with what we had, we take a block of linoleum (what you see in the photo) and transfer our sketch using carbon paper. After the image is transferred, you use scrapping tools to scrap away the outlines of the image. The result is a black what you can spread ink on to be used to stamp the image onto a paper using a printing press.
This assignment was meaningful to me because it was something I had never done before. I was used to drawing models and cars and animals. Drawing something that will be used later on to make a print. It was really fun to make.
Before this assignment, I didn't know what block printing was. It like a foreign language to me. Experiencing everything that goes into this incredible art from made me appreciate it that much more.

This assignment is the fairy tale scene. We were to pick a fairy tale, classic story, mother goose stories, etc. and chose a section of the story to create an image from. I chose The Bear and the Willow Wren. After we chose a story, we sketched out our ideas. Once we were satisfied, we redrew our design on good paper and then painted it with watercolor and ink.
This assignment was meaningful because it brought me back to my childhood. I had to go through several stories to find the one that I wanted to use, and it allowed me to go back and read the stories I had once read before.
Before this assignment, I didn't think that I was able to use watercolor in such a way. I thought that I would only be able to express my art in the form of sketches. But now, if I really set my mind to it, I know that I can use watercolor to create different and colorful works of art.
